The City's principal claim is that the trial court erred in failing to dismiss the § 1983 claims as a matter of law. It contends that Grader failed to introduce sufficient evidence to sustain either his equal protection or his due process § 1983 claims, or to prove that the alleged civil rights violations were the proximate cause of his damages.*fn1
